Brutus Irv | Jaratin

Jaratin - Single.jpg

Since releasing his debut EP, South Carolina artist Brutus Irv has released a few singles and his most recent release "Jaratin" featuring Chevelle Rakeem does not disappoint. The song starts to the sound of a bottle being poured, putting us at the table with Brutus as he spills lyrics over production by NOAHTheProducer. Brutus hypes himself up leading up to the hook before exclaiming "niggas ain't pimping no more." He then goes into the verse reminiscing about his younger years and how those events affect him now as a man and how he passes that knowledge to others saying he doesn't want to wear a shirt saying rest in peace. This verse creates an interesting juxtaposition to the aggressive hook that comes blasting in. Chevelle Rakeem comes in soaring over the beat as he lists his observances to those around him. His separates himself from competition as he states he's going to count some change and never change. He really changes the perspective of the song when he equates spoiling his girl to "true pimping shit" before the hook comes into play. Once the hook finishes, the beat changes and the only word the listener is left with is a haunting "homicide".
