Seven Questions | BANKS
Where are you from?
BANKS: "I'm from Texas. Lubbock, Texas to be exact, but I have roots in Birmingham, Alabama. Lubbock is a midsize city, not really known for much more than Texas Tech and I'm trying to kick that door down for the city."
How long have you been doing music?
BANKS: "I've been singing and writing music since I was about ten years old, but I never took it serious until recently. The Summer of 2016, I recorded my first record at Animal Kingdom Studios in Amarillo. I was given some good feedback and now I'm here trying to build off of that."
What influenced you to do music?
BANKS: "Honestly, I just picked it up from watching tv. 106 & Park, TRL, growing up those shows and seeing people that I admire like Usher, Beyonce, and others and I would think to myself, "Hey I can do that too" and now I'm trying."
How would you define your sound?
BANKS: "I would describe my sound as evolving. I hate labels and I never want to be put into a box. I just make music. Some days it's good, some days it's bad. Sometimes it's fast. Sometimes it's slow. Sometimes it's conservative, sometimes it's explicit. Wherever my mind goes when I'm in the song writing process is the type of music my supports will get and I thank them for that."
What song of yours would you want a potential fan to hear first? Why?
BANKS: "I would just like to mention it's a progression. I'm an indie artist so it's hard to make records with the quality and production of Drake, but I'm working my ass off to be greater. Myself and my team have really focused this year on doing just that. The first song I would pick is "Set The Mood" which is from my Midnight Music EP, that song is probably my favorite that I've done so far and I think it shows just how great I can truly be."
Can you tell us one interesting fact about yourself?
BANKS: "I don't really think I'm that interesting like many of the crazy artists you see around. I'm not that flashy guy with all the jewelry and designer clothes. That doesn't interest me much and maybe that's what's most interesting about me. I wake up and work and go to school like anyone else. I just happen to creep to the studio at night and make these records."
What can we expect from you in the near future?
BANKS: "Next thing for me is just more music. I made a promise to my team and myself that I was going to work harder this year than I've ever worked and I just hope that it's noticed. I appreciate all the love this far and just be looking out for more records. Especially with Noah."
