Music to My Ears (as of late)

Wow. It has been 478 days since my last blog post. I have had many ideas on how I would re-embrace this segment of my website. Even in my minimal effort to hide these blogs behind a ‘+’ tab, it still continues to direct traffic to itself. I thought I would make a soft return simply by exposing you all to what I have been listening to in this last year and some change.

So in no particular order we’ll start here:

ICECOLDBISHOP, GENERATIONAL CURSE

I’m not sure what I was expecting when I pressed play on this album, but whatever it was, was blown out of the water. Half of this album has already landed on my 2023 REPLAY playlist on Apple Music. That is HALF of this 13-track album. The uniqueness of ICECOLDBISHOP’s voice to the fun adlibs to the overall themes to the coherent production makes this a great listen.

Mudy, Anthem

Another song that has quickly made its way to my most replayed songs playlists has been Anthem by Mudy. What really exposed me to this song was she performed it on SouthBySole. The energy, her presence on the mic, it makes for great braggadocio. I find it a great song to start my day.

JANE HANDCOCK, I Wanna Thank Me 2.0

THIS is a feel-good song if there ever was one. I saw a video of her performing it live and immediately went to listen to the official release. It will have you reflecting on everything that’s brought you to where you are and appreciative of that fact. It might as well be labeled as gospel. Having a good day? A bad one? Throw this on.

Nippa, Where They At

I remember hearing this as a snippet and somehow Nippa managed to live up to the expectation that snippets so often fail to meet. It feels so nostalgic but new at the same time. It’ll sound great at a cookout or a party. It’s R&B? But so much more bounce. You’ll be asking “Where they at?” after the first listen.

Gian Kash, Don’t Exist

I don’t like to write on artists that I work with personally (seems cynical, no?) but seeing as how I didn’t have a hand in this record, that’s not an issue. This was another snippet sneak peek that didn’t disappoint. It feels motivational. It feels hungry for more. It’s a fitting single following the release of his full-length project Hope You Can Relate.

I feel like I’m leaving a lot of artists out but these five have been in rotation the heaviest as of late. I will probably do another one of these segments. Maybe it won’t take me another 478 days. Maybe it will.
